We are honored to lead the planning and execution of the Sabkha D Desalination Plant in Eilat Municipality, following our successful award of the national tender by MEKOROT®.
BlueGen's Role in Water Supply Key to Eilat’s Future Growth
BlueGen, a subsidiary of Generation Capital (TASE: GNRS), has been awarded the contract to expand the Eilat desalination plant. This project will significantly boost the city’s water capacity, increasing the desalination supply from 18 million cubic meters per year to 38 million cubic meters annually.
As one of the key factors limiting Eilat’s growth, this expansion is expected to unlock the potential for the city to grow both in size and tourism. The new plant will also support agricultural development in the surrounding Paran region, further contributing to the area’s economic growth.
Sabha D is currently the only desalination facility supplying Eilat’s water, serving both the local population and the tourism industry. However, the existing plant has reached its capacity, hindering the city’s further expansion. With the new plant, Eilat will have the infrastructure needed to support its growth in both tourism and agriculture.
The project, estimated to cost NIS 425 million, will not only meet the city’s growing water needs but will also contribute to strengthening Israel’s water sector, especially in light of recent drought challenges. Following the tender win, BlueGen CEO Leehu Hacohen emphasized the company’s expertise and commitment to enhancing the nation’s water resilience.
