Revitalizing Desalination - Achieving Efficiency and Sustainability
In 2022 BlueGen, in collaboration with Shapir Group, successfully completed the acquisition of Ashdod Desalination Plant from State-Owned water company Mekorot.
Since the acquisition, the plant has been going a substantial transformation, encompassing detailed design, process engineering, civil works and improved energy solutions. Utilizing a cutting-edge direct drive energy solution, as well as future construction of an on-site power plant, the plant is set to deliver additional cost efficiencies.
The plant is operated under a Build-Operate-Transfer agreement, with the concession term set to extend until 2038. Upon completion, the plant is slated to achieve a desalination capacity of 140,000,000 m3/year, making it one of the largest in Israel.
