Overview: Kibbutz Sdot Yam, situated along the Mediterranean Sea nearby Caesarea, urgently sought a solution when facing nitrate contamination exceeding Israeli standards (above 60 mg/l) in a well crucial for irrigation.

BlueGen Water Solution: BlueGen Water Implemented its own MBDEN™ Treatment. Initially, sand removal occurs in a Hydrocyclone, followed by biological treatment in a pre-anoxic reactor (Deox) and an anoxic stage, converting nitrate (NO3) to Nitrogen gas (N2) with no environmental impact. Both reactors are continuously mixed and contain Aqwise Technologies biomass carriers. Ethanol and phosphoric acid dosing maintains the essential C:N:P ratio for optimal biological activity. Online analysis ensures effective nitrate reduction, and the treated water undergoes pre-filtration and ultra-filtration (UF) membrane separation to eliminate solids and micro-organisms. The UF system achieves an impressive 92% recovery rate, and the environmentally safe UF backwash water can be discharged to the sewer or used for irrigation.
