In 2009, Ashdod Oil Refinery embarked on a project to construct a second power plant, CO-GEN 2, equipped with a dual-fuel fired 60MW Gas Turbine Generator and an Energy Recovery Heat Exchanger. A critical component of this initiative was the establishment of a new deionized water plant to serve the turbine’s water injection system and meet the refinery’s internal needs. The plant aimed at producing treated and demineralized water, vital for boosting power generation efficiency and reducing NOx emissions.

Advanced Water Treatment Solutions for Power Generation

Overview: In 2009, Ashdod Oil Refinery embarked on a project to construct a second power plant, CO-GEN 2, equipped with a dual-fuel fired 60MW Gas Turbine Generator and an Energy Recovery Heat Exchanger. A critical component of this initiative was the establishment of a new deionized water plant to serve the turbine’s water injection system and meet the refinery’s internal needs. The plant aimed at producing treated and demineralized water, vital for boosting power generation efficiency and reducing NOx emissions.

Bluegen Water Solution: To address the refinery’s rigorous standards for water quality and operational efficiency, a comprehensive water treatment solution was implemented. This included the deployment of double RO pass desalination and continuous electro-deionization (CEDI) polishing units. The plant, designed to produce 190,000 m³/year of pure water, supports boiler feed requirements, achieves a high recovery ratio, maximizes water reuse, and ensures compliance with stringent environmental regulations.

Key Features and Innovations:

High-Quality Water Production

Achieving conductivity lower than 0.1 μs/cm and silica below 0.05 ppm to meet the specific needs of boiler feed water and gas turbine injection systems.

Efficient Water Recovery

The design incorporates a high recovery ratio, ensuring maximum water reuse and sustainability.

Compliance with Standards

Meets the most stringent refinery and environmental standards, promoting operational excellence and environmental stewardship.

Automated Operations

An automatic, easy-to-operate system designed for unattended operation, enhancing efficiency and reducing operational complexities.
